Fossilized silica diagenetic fronts: Implications for palaeoceanographic evolution across the Falkland/Malvinas plateau

چکیده
A set of newly collected 2D seismic reflection data allows the mapping two distinct cross-cutting reflectors across Falkland/Malvinas Plateau. Reflector XR-F/MB in Basin appears as a bottom simulating reflector that mimics geometry present seafloor, whereas XR-F/MT Trough is non-bottom shallower representing Early-Middle Miocene unconformity. The discordant these with respect to host-stratigraphy argued be associated Opal-A Opal-CT diagenesis, which primarily function temperature. However, estimated temperature at depth for lies below minimum onset silica diagenesis. Based on their and characteristics, are interpreted fossilized diagenetic fronts, formed under palaeo-thermal conditions different from today. We hypothesize erosional action intensified deep water masses subsequent Antarctic glaciations during may have driven fossilization front study area. It erosion 270 m overburden would account drop driving fron.

Eocene to recent variations in erosion across the central Andean fold- thrust belt, northern Bolivia: Implications for plateau evolution
Quantifying the erosional and kinematic evolution of orogenic plateaus has been limited by insufficient age constraints on their deformation and erosion histories. Palinspastic restorations suggest the central Andean fold-thrust belt and plateau evolved concurrently in Bolivia. We present an analysis that synthesizes 19 new and 32 previous apatite and zircon fission-track and (U–Th)/He mineral ...
متن کاملOn the modifications of near-inertial waves at fronts: Implications for energy transfer across scales
In the ocean, wind-generated kinetic energy (KE) manifests itself primarily in balanced currents and near-inertial waves. The dynamics of these flows is strongly constrained by the Earth’s rotation, causing the KE in balanced currents to follow an inverse cascade but also preventing wave-wave interactions from fluxing energy in the near-inertial band to lower frequencies and higher vertical wav...
متن کاملI-16: The Evolution of Morality and Implications for Animal Usage
The propensity to show moral behaviour has evolved in all animals living in complex societies as it promotes social stability. All major religions provide a structure for a moral code. The code is valuable in the societies where the religions have influence. The most important aspects of morality are the same in all countries. Because of their moral code, people consider that they have obligati...
متن کاملNeodymium in the oceans: a global database, a regional comparison and implications for palaeoceanographic research
The neodymium (Nd) isotopic composition of seawater has been used extensively to reconstruct ocean circulation on a variety of time scales. However, dissolved neodymium concentrations and isotopes do not always behave conservatively, and quantitative deconvolution of this non-conservative component can be used to detect trace metal inputs and isotopic exchange at ocean-sediment interfaces. In o...
متن کاملDiagenetic variation in the Oregon Coast Range: Implications for rock strength, soil production, hillslope form, and landscape evolution
The mechanisms by which lithology modulates geomorphic processes are poorly known. In the Oregon Coast Range (OCR), rhythmically bedded sandstones of the Eocene Tyee Formation underlie steep, soil-mantled hillslopes, with relatively uniform ridge-valley spacing. These characteristic landforms are perturbed where diagenetic variations manifest as resistant cliffs. Here we use petrology, rock mec...
